Portugal

Since this visit to Porto and Aveiro in November 2017, I was dreaming about coming back to Portugal. I fell in love with the atmosphere, architecture and food of this country. It was a very brief 3-day visit, but that was definitely enough to wish for a much longer trip.

When it comes to Porto, first and foremost - enjoy all the port wine and cocktails based on it! You can also join one of the port house tours and tasting. We generally didn’t have a plan for the few days we had in Porto, but we thoroughly enjoyed just walking around the town in unusually good November weather.

I can certainly recommend staying in Porto for a few days and explore not only the city, but neighbouring towns also. We have rented a car for a day and visited a few towns just 1 hour drive out of Porto. We started our day by checking out the canals and colourful boats of Aveiro (definitely understand why it’s sometimes called the Venice of Portugal). We late took a short drive to the beach of Barra, where we took a long and relaxing walk by the beach. Such an amazing weather we had in late November - 20 degrees and sunny - what else can two people from Iceland wish for! I fell in love with the colourful striped houses of Costa Nova, which we visited after a lunch in one of the beach restaurants. And sunset we have met at the beautiful Capela do Senhor da Pedra.

We had a long trip to Portugal planned for April 2020, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. We’re still hoping to go some time in the future.
