Westfjords of Iceland

Westfjords are and forever be my favourite part of Iceland. I don’t really know why exactly I’m so drawn to this part of the country, maybe because on my first ever visit to Iceland I have spend 2 weeks being a volunteer in Hólmavík.

Westfjords are a very remote and lesser visited part of Iceland. Roads here are not the best and are often running up the steep slopes of the mountains, definitely not for the faint-hearted. But once you reach this region you are rewarded with views that don’t disappoint.

There are some places that, in my opinion, you shouldn’t miss while traveling to the Westfjords.

  • Dynjandi - beautiful cascade waterfall between the south and northern parts of the Westfjords.

  • Látrabjarg cliffs - birdwatching paradise. Thousands of cute puffins nesting there from May until the middle of August.

  • Pollurinn - hot pot in Tálknafjörður, perfect spot to relax after a long day of driving.

  • Selárdalur (this one is certainly optional, but I love it!) - Samuel Jónson’s art museum.

These are my favourite images from my trips to the Westfjords in the winter 2016 and in summer 2017.
